The foundation’s creation has one goal—to support the construction of a new Orthodox church in the Southern district of Plovdiv and raise the necessary financial resources for this purpose.
The Southern district is the largest district in Plovdiv, with a population of over 100,000 people. Despite its size, it only has three Orthodox churches. The largest one is “Holy Trinity” (located at 1 Archimandrite Evlogi Street) near the Saturday Market.
The other two churches have a more limited presence in the lives of the faithful due to their unique characteristics. On “Alexander Stamboliyski” Blvd., there is the “St. All Saints” church, built in the early 21st century. It is located next to the Draganovi Cemetery (the cemetery park of the Southern district). Therefore, funerals and memorial services are primarily served there.
The third Orthodox church is located in the Komatevo neighbourhood – “Saint Procopius.” However, it is far from the most densely populated neighbourhoods of the Southern district.
Because of this, the laity in the greater part of the “Southern” region, which is larger than 20 regional cities in Bulgaria, are left without an Orthodox church nearby.
In the southern part of the district, on Stefan Stambolov Street, there is a property designated for the construction of an Orthodox church. It is private municipal property and has a size of 1887 square meters. The location of the property is extremely suitable, as it is near a park area and on a main street.
In addition, the allocated property with identifier 56784.531.2230 is sufficiently close to the neighborhoods in the square between “Macedonia” Blvd., “Akademik Petar Dinekov” Blvd., “Alexander Stamboliyski” Blvd. and “Komatevsko Shose” Blvd. This is precisely the area where there is no Orthodox church near people’s homes in the “South” area.

The foundation’s belief is that by building an Orthodox church in the area, people will have better access to the Bulgarian Patriarchate and the bosom of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. Through them, the residents of the Southern District will be able to rely on faith and Christian values, which will lead to the spiritual growth of the laity in Plovdiv.
In troubled times like today, the Bulgarian Patriarchate seems like a natural pillar of Bulgarian way of life, culture, and traditions, which can serve to unite the nation.
The Foundation will provide monthly reports on all funds received in the account that is being opened for the cause.
